Your Inner Critic

We are often our own biggest critics. We all have that inner voice that tries to bring us down when we are working towards our goals.

You're not good enough.

You can't do this.

You should just quit now.

But you wouldn't talk like that to someone you love.

So how do you quiet your inner critic? Here's my tips:

  1. Give your inner critic a name. It helps to personify it, so you can separate it from your own true thoughts. That way you can address it by name when it creeps up, and tell it to quiet down. What name would you give your inner critic?
  2. Write down the negative thoughts. Now crumple them up and throw them in the trash. They are not serving you, and do not define you.
  3. Write affirmations on post-it notes. Hang them in a spot you will see every day (and read them). These will help reframe your thoughts, so the positive outnumber the negative.

You are amazing.

You can do hard things.

You've got this!
